Companies when they realize they have a successful product, they try to branch out and create a second just a successful product, a sequel. They try to create and market a product that would appeal to their target market the same if not better than the original, some companies find the golden nugget so does speak twice such as Coke or Pepsi with Coke Zero and Pepsi Max-another king of "better" soft drink, however some companies like Apple who created the Apple III and Apple III series-products often regarded as failures; come to the realization that their second product may be over exaggerated, heavily flawed and therefore not as good as the original.
Lets take a closer look at the Apple III, created to follow the success of the Apple II computer the III was intended for the business-orientated person, to fit their needs. It was originally released as an enhancement to the Apple II computer, however due to serious stability issues the product was given a massive recall. The company tried to salvage the product, they made changes to the product and they were able to resolve most the issues however severe damage was done to the computer's reputation and so Apple had to scrap the whole product line from the market and the Apple III was discontinued indefinitely.
The example of product and the effect that consumers can have the reputation proves, that if a product is introduced as a "sequel" to the original and it is faced with issues or problems, the company has to act quickly so that a repeat of what happened to Apple doesn't happen again. Apple's credibility was shot for a while, when they introduced their next computer system it took a while for people to trust their product. The success or failure of a "sequel" product depends mostly on the interpretation of the consumers and whether or not they are willing and able to spend money on said product. And because of how much people emphasize their friends' opinions or that of reviewers if your product receives negative connotation such as Apple's there is only a small window of time for you fix the problem before you too have to scrap the whole idea.
