Homemaker House Wife vs Money Making Man
Advertisers have set in place a certain image of who a man and a woman should be both in the business world and in the home. An image has been painted in consumers minds that women are made for the home, that they need to take care of the kids, make dinner, do laundry etc. while the man is out making money and in a sense "bringing home the bacon". This image that women and men need to be a certain person has existed in advertising for a very long time. For example the way women have been portrayed in the media advertising world is;
-weak
-feeble
-dunce
-homemaker
-slutty
A male's image has been portrayed by being;
-strong
-in control
-handsome
-idiot like
-not a good listener
-breadwinner
-non-family
Either gender should be able to be whoever they want, a man should be able to stay home with the family if that wants he wants, and vice-versa with the woman if she wants a career or a life outside of a family then she should be able to without negative consequences. Either gender should be able to be dominant or subservient, people should be able to create their own image without having to worry about what they should be doing or acting like due to advertisements.
From the time we are little we are given expectations of who we are to become and as we get older we believe that this image that was imposed on us is the who we have to be. Gender stereotypes are still included in today's ads maybe no to the same extent as years ago, but we should be able to choose who we are and what products to buy not because someone said we could or should but because we wanted to.
