Brand Name Babies
Advertising Agencies have made their money by advertising their product as being the best "brand" available to consumers. Speaking from personal experience, brands and brand names are weighed heavily when consumers choose which product they want to buy for their particular need. For example most commercials advertise that because their product has the specific "brand name" that, that makes their product better and therefore the consumer should purchase that item. Take for example K-9 Advantix commercials. Here the company is claiming that their product and "no name" product when compared aren't the same, that k-9 Advantix is the better choice than the generic version of such a product.
We as a whole community have been "spoiled" because when we go shopping we always browse the shelves for the brand name product that we grew up with, or that we know will get the job done. Consumers have become obsessed with having products that are brand name popular; Sophomore Nicole Corkill at San Jose State says; "I never buy a generic product, I don't trust it, I only buy products with the popular brand name". Consumers such as Nicole have fallen prey to advertisers and their claims of the statements that their product excels because of the brand label.
